Company Moves to Strengthen Executive Team with Recognized Technology Pioneer

San Jose Calif., January 31, 2002 - Dejima, Inc., developer of direct access software solutions for the CRM and Mobile markets, today announced that the company has named Adam Cheyer as its new vice president of Engineering. Cheyer has been an advisor to Dejima on technology and business issues since 1999 and brings over 15 years of experience in research and commercial environments in the areas of applied artificial intelligence, advanced human computer interfaces and distributed computing.

As vice president of Engineering, Cheyer will be responsible for managing Dejima's engineering staff and guiding the company's technology development. Cheyer joins Dejima from his most recent positions as VP of Engineering and VP of Advanced Technology at Verticalnet. While at Verticalnet, Cheyer led development for the enterprise products group, whose eXtended enterprise management (XEM) applications provide unmatched visibility into critical data, allowing organizations to communicate and collaborate more effectively across the extended value chain.

"Adam's demonstrated leadership in the development and implementation of cutting-edge technology will be an invaluable asset to Dejima as we continue to develop and improve our products," said Antoine Blondeau, Dejima CEO.

Prior to Verticalnet, Cheyer was a Sr. Computer Scientist in SRI International's Artificial Intelligence Center, where he conducted pioneering research on distributed agent technology and web services. Cheyer also founded and helped lead SRI's Computer Human Interaction Center (CHIC!), a group of multidisciplinary researchers focusing on advanced user interfaces. Adam has degrees in Artificial Intelligence from the University of California at Los Angeles and Brandeis University.

"Dejima products address a critical need, empowering people with information in a most timely and efficient way." said Cheyer. "Dejima has a very promising future and I'm looking forward to being a part of it."
